Val Gardena is a mecca for all hiking enthusiasts. Among innumerable hiking trails, you can choose the most suitable for you, may it be steep or even, short or long, difficult or easy.
If you wish to take an easy walk, there are various paths to choose from. Many of them are suitable for buggies.

Climbing

For the mountain enthusiasts, the term “climbing” has various meanings: alpine climbing, rock climbing, sport climbing, competition climbing, bouldering and much more. No matter which variant is your favourite one, in Val Gardena you will for sure be satisfied – it is not for nothing that the Dolomites are known all over the world as climbing paradise. Mountain biking / Cycling

Are you a mountain bike enthusiast looking for adventures that take you over rough and smooth? Then Val Gardena is the right place for you. With the aid of the MTB map Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi you can discover fantastic itineraries and live unforgettable experiences. Don't miss the event Sellaronda Hero, Europe's hardest mountain bike race.
For all bicycle aficionados there is also the Sellaronda Bike Day: the four Dolomite passes (Gardena, Pordoi, Sella and Campolongo Pass) around the Sella Group will be reserved exclusively for you.
Besides these two great events, there are many wonderful itineraries to be discovered, along which you will always be accompanied by an amazing mountain panorama.

Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking is a special form of athletic walking, an endurance sport, which is suited for exercised athletes and untrained people alike: it is easy and fast to learn, strengthens the heart, enhances the circulation, increases the oxygen supply of the whole organism, eases muscle tensions in the shoulder and neck area, and helps to loose weight.
The rhythmic use of two poles sustains the walking. Thus: one, two, one, two… Perfect! Go for it and do something good for your body in the healthy mountain air of Val Gardena!

Paragliding

High ropes course

A unique adventure for small and big in Val Gardena: the high ropes course in the forest close to the gondola cableway Seceda in Ortisei, which is led by the Alpine climbing school Catores.
For the use of this high ropes course, no specific experience is needed. The Alpine climbing school Catores supplies the equipment and, before the start, gives the necessary instructions to every participant. On request, a professional mountain guide leads you through the whole course. You can also book group events, which place special emphasis on the pedagogical concept.
Moreover, there is also a course for children, during which they are told many interesting things about the forest world.
An exciting individual, physical and also psychical challenge is waiting on you.

Horse riding

To discover the world of the Dolomites on horseback is a fantastic experience you don't want to miss. Jump into the saddle and enjoy the fantastic alpine scenery passing traditional mountain huts and riding through larch, spruce and Swiss pine forests. Val Gardena is just perfect for unforgettable riding adventures!
The riding stables in Val Gardena offer a wide range of activities: riding lessons, outings of an hour, half a day and full-day trips, pony riding, coach journeys and horse pension.

Just in the skiing area Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi alone, there are 175 kilometres of interconnected ski runs on your disposal. Moreover, the valley is part of Dolomiti Superski, the world's largest ski carousel. This means that you can use a total of more than 1200 km of slopes in 12 skiing areas with a single ski pass, the Dolomiti Superski ski pass.

Snowboarding

Unlimited fun on the snowboard is awaiting you in Val Gardena, whether you like race or freestyle. Just in the skiing area Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi alone, there are 175 kilometres of interconnected ski runs on your disposal. Moreover, the valley is part of Dolomiti Superski, the world's largest ski carousel. This means that you can use a total of more than 1200 km of slopes in 12 skiing areas with a single ski pass, the Dolomiti Superski ski pass.
Furthermore, there are two routes that you don't want to miss in your holidays: the Gherdëina Skiring (within Val Gardena) and the worldwide known Sellaronda, which is a tour around the impressive Sella Group. With a single ski pass you can enjoy at least 26 km of downhill emotion in just one day. The expert snowboarders among you have the possibility to extend the Sellaronda trying out various slopes in the connected skiing areas.
In Val Gardena you always find great quality: there are boarder cross runs, half pipes and snow and fun parks that are groomed daily. Moreover, given the modern lifts and cable ways, the transport is fast and there are no long queues you have to wait in. There are, of course, also many inviting mountain huts on the slopes, which offer a great cuisine in a cosy atmosphere.
In Val Gardena there are numerous ski and snowboard rentals and ski and snowboard schools offering courses of all kinds.

Ski touring

Cross-country skiing

Alpe di Siusi-Val Gardena is one of 11 areas belonging to Dolomiti Nordicski, Europe's largest Nordic skiing carousel. In the heart of the Alps, you can use about 1300 km of cross-country ski runs with a single ski pass.
In Val Gardena there are various places to practice cross-country skiing:

  • in Vallunga in Selva Gardena (12 km of runs),
  • on Monte Pana in S. Cristina (37 km of runs) and
  • on the Passo Pinei above Ortisei in the direction of Castelrotto (4 km of runs).

There is also a direct connection from Ortisei and from Monte Pana to the cross-country skiing paradise Alpe di Siusi (60 km of runs).
Perfectly prepared cross-country skiing runs and a spectacular mountain panorama are awaiting you. You will keep this fantastic experience in your heart forever!
In Val Gardena there are also cross-country skiing schools and rentals.

Sledding

Whether at daytime or at full moon under an enchanting starry sky, whether romantic or action-packed. If you spend your winter holidays in Val Gardena, you should definitely experience a sledding outing on one of our fantastic natural runs. It is great fun!
Check out the 6 km long sledding run of Rasciesa. You can enjoy a fantastic view during the ascent with the funicular railway opened in December 2010. The intermediate terminal enables to sled down the first part of the run several times one after the other.
Sled rental: at the lower terminus of the funicular railway Rasciesa or in the various sled rentals in the three villages of the valley, in Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva Gardena.

Snowshoeing

The gorgeous landscape and the crystal clear mountain air of Val Gardena. Experience the snow-covered valley off the ski runs and the noise. Enjoy the peacefulness and the quiet beauty around you and look out for animal traces, when you snowshoe through the breathtaking nature of the Dolomites on your own or with a guide. Everybody can snowshoe.

Ice skating

The words “figure skating” and “Val Gardena” recall at once Carolina Kostner. Carolina comes from Ortisei in Val Gardena and has already won several times the Italian championships. She has also earned some medals at European and World championships and has, moreover, participated at the Winter Olympic Games.
In all three villages of Val Gardena (Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva Gardena) there are ice skating possibilities. The choice ranges from an indoor ice rink to natural ice rinks under the sky. You can, of course, rent ice skates at the rinks, if you don't have your own. Furthermore, also ice skating lessons are offered.
In the valley you can not only ice skate but also play curling.
All the young and the young at heart among you should not miss the ice skating nights with disco music.

Ice climbing

Besides the possibility to climb and boulder also in winter in the various climbing and bouldering gyms of Val Gardena, ice climbing courses and outings are offered.

Val Gardena Card

With € 79,00 you can travel around Val Gardena for 6 days with all lifts during the summer in Val Gardena. The Gardena Card for 3 days costs € 60,00.
Gardena Card is valid from June, 6th until October, 11th, 2015.

The card costs € 5,00 for children up to the age of 8 (born after 06/06/2007) if at least one parent buys a card. For juniors aged between 8 an 16 (born after 06/06/1999) the card costs € 57,00 Euro (€ 43,00 for 3 days). Discounts can only be provided on presentation of an identity card.

  • Juniors from 8 to 16 years: Gardena Card Junior at the price of € 57,00 (6 days) or € 43,00 (3 days).

With the new chipcards used for Gardena Card you can check your trekking performance. You need only a computer and an internet connection.

Online performance check

Sales conditions:

  1. Gardena Card is a non-transferable personal pass consisting of a ticket valid for use on the cableway and lifts.
  2. The ticket has to be kept and shown on request accompanied by an identity document.
  3. The Gardena Card is valid for 6 or 3 consecutive days as from the first day of use. It cannot be replaced if lost.
  4. The closure of one or more cableways and lifts doesn’t entitle you to a refund of the price paid.
  5. In case of breach of regulations, the card may be withdrawn by cableway and lift personnel.
  6. The offer Gardena Card is operative from June 6th to October 11th, 2015; some cableways and lifts are also open before and after the validity of the Gardena Card. The Gardena Card is not valid for evening rides.
  7. For transported animals, bicycles or other objects the lift facilities can require an extra charge. Gardena Card holders can take their mountain bikes on the lift for € 5,00.

If you don't have a ticket, you may have to pay a hefty penalty fare. Most car parks and spaces have a pay and display policy.
